Description

PopClip pops up when you select text with your mouse, giving you a customizable row of helpful action buttons. The basic actions include copy and paste, dictionary lookup, and web search. Select a misspelled word, and PopClip offers corrections. Select a URL, and PopClip lets you open it, or shorten it, or add it to your reading list. You can transform the text from lowercase to capitals, or sort the selected lines alphabetically. Send a snippet to a translation website, or add a task to your favourite to-do app. PopClip integrates with many popular apps and websites. See the full range of available actions at: https://www.popclip.app/extensions

Please note: PopClip works in most Mac apps, but not in all. For an up-to-date list of known incompatible apps, see https://www.popclip.app/go/apps

What’s New

Version 2023.9

In this release, I have again focused on improving reliability and compatibility, plus a few minor improvements.

- Added: Improved link detection. PopClip now detects links in text without an http:// or https:// prefix for all the newer top-level domains, e.g. .shop, .news, .coffee.
- Added: In Arc browser, extensions now get the page URL and title.
- Added: Basic support for Waterfox browser.
- Changed: The menu bar icon is a little bit smaller.
- Changed: The minimum system requirement is now macOS 10.15 Catalina.
- Fixed: Appears more consistently when selecting text in particular apps, including Obsidian, VS Code, Notion, Ulysses and others.
- Fixed: Various bug fixes. Gotta squash 'em all.

In addition, there are new features for extension developers, including TypeScript support, which you can read about in the Developer Changelog on the PopClip website.

Thanks to those who have reported bugs and compatibility issues, whether to support@pilotmoon.com or on the forum. Feel free to reach out whenever you have something to say about PopClip.

Finally, I recently published a totally revamped website for PopClip at www.popclip.app, including a much improved User Guide, so check it out.

Simple, lightweight, super useful, responsive developer

So, I bought this on a whim because I prefer Apple Pages and noticed one feature it doesn't have is Sentence Caes like Microsoft Word and LibreOffice, and I figured this feature would be included. I normally check more carefully before buying, but I had been searching around looking for Apple Scripts and other programs to make this text transformation easier than manually performing it or using a program I don't prefer. I had a good feeling about this, but realized it was missing that feature. I quickly found however, that this program is very handy for many text situations, like sharing an article link, or performing a quick google or twitter search of highlighted text. It just expands your capabilities when working with text and it's super customizable and feature rich. If you're a power user, this utility seems like it belongs in your toolbelt. Easy to turn off auto appearance and pop up with a shortcut using programs like Better Touch Tool, which I've done. Long story short, after I realized I loved this program, I emailed the developer about the missing feature that had inspired my hopes for its purchase, and within 24 hours he added it!! Amazing. This software is a delight, with or without that feature. Thank you to the developer for the hard work. This is well worth the price! Also love that it's not subscription (huge key for me) and is Apple Silicon optimized!

One of the handiest utilities I've ever used

This little app just sits quietly and awaits a chance to help you. I didn't realize how much I would appreciate it until I'd used it for a few days and then tried to do a similar feat in Windows (our company is, alas, a Windows shop). Do you enjoy carefully highlighting a word or a text string with your mouse and then right-clicking to copy it to the clipboard and then positioning your mouse where you want to paste the text and right-clicking again to paste it in? That's the Windows way. With PopClip, I just highlight the text, choose Copy from the popup menu that appears automatically, position the mouse where I want to place the text and with a click the menu agains shows up automatically and I choose Paste. It might not sound like a big timesaver but when you think about how often you do that sort of thing when editing documents or navigating web-based tools, the value of PopClip jumps out at you. And that's just one of the things it does so well. Read the features and then decide. It is so reasonably priced. Kudos to the developer!

Excellent SW that Smooths the Workflow

I’ve been using this utility for a couple years and I don’t setup a new Mac without it. PopClip’s broad list of extensions has everything you could want to do to strings of text or URLs in any document. In fact, it’s extendability may be a weakness because if you add all the possibilities you’ll end with a very long list of options displaying when you highlight a string. Choose wisely!

Of particular value to me is the extension that converts ALL CAPS to lower case (for folks like me: sloppy typers who inadvertently hit caps lock). The extensions to send strings to apps and are great for searching, collecting and defining terms with minimal fuss.

Here’s $10 well spent on a utility that waits quietly to make your life easier. Thanks to Pilotmoon for this very useful piece of software.
